Dear Friends —
Greetings and thank you for checking in.
I haven’t written since the beginning of this year… where has the time gone?
We played two new Blue Notes in January / Feb — first in Napa CA— beautiful new jewel-of-a-club,
on bottom level of the historic Napa Opera House— and the second in Honolulu, one of my ‘homes’.
I’ve been visiting Honolulu ever since my sister Tracy moved there… and playing there too, either at Hawaii Public Radio’s Atherton Theatre, or Doris Duke Theatre, as well as a few outer-island gigs…
and I’m here to say Hawaii -IS- all it’s cracked up to be! That’s a poor description of such a magical place, but it’s the truth. So playing at the Blue Note there was a real treat with Rod, Ed and Miro— we thank the audiences for joining us and look forward to the next time. I also visited the Big Island, saw wonderful hump-back whales and huge waves, some great birds… ahhhhh…
We made a stop in Denver at Dazzle on the way there… a sweet little club with wonderful audience and staff…Go there if you’re in the area. Thanks to my band, Miro, Jeff and Todd for the music.
After Denver, we were invited to perform for the Colorado Music Educators Conference at the beautiful Broadmoor Hotel. Another lovely area— and event. Go Music Ed! Always great to see my good friend Beth too.
In Feb, we played at UCON— where the women’s basketball team were celebrating an un-precedented 111 game winning streak … wow, we loved playing there!
We had a lovely gig in Ft Lauderdale with the great pianist Shelly Berg and Ed Howard, what a trio— the whole of night Rodgers & Hammerstein.. sublime for me.
Back to beautiful Napa Valley – St Helena this time for the Napa Jazz Society concert held at Mondavi Winery… big thanks to our hosts Bill and Margie Hart… great crowd and event!
My sister Elisa and two of her ‘kids’ (Sonya and Paul) came along, we had a ball… also with our friends Roy & Eileen— great wine didn’t hurt.
Onto Hollywood CA — Catalina’s ! Another ‘home’ for me for many years. Played with the wonderful Larry Koonse, Miro Sprague and Jeff Johnson — thank you to the great crowds who joined us. We did a (mostly) night of Chris Caswell lyrics — the night he was there, and it was a lovely tribute to my talented friend.
Also I got to see and play George Gershwin’s piano while there… Well, Mr. Gershwin gave it to the great lyricist Jimmy McHugh .. thanks to Lee Newman for making that happen (there’s a short vid on our Facebook page if you want to check it out)
Honored – Jimmy McHugh's piano given to him by George Gershwin!

I made a trip to Omaha (another ‘home’) to see my Step-Mom Ardi… we like to go visit the great migration of Sand Hill Cranes along the Platte River in NE…. there’s also a short vid of that on FB…
Beautiful ! Always love to see some great friends while in Omaha too— Mary, Steve, Therese— the best!
Onto Mulfreesboro (Middle State University of TN) just outside of Nashville.. got to work with the vocal students under the direction of Cedric Dent (an alum of “Take Five” — talented & sweet guy!) and worked with the faculty there for a concert… thanks to our hosts John Duke and Mike Parkinson.
Next week… onto Chicago’s Green Mill, Minneapolis’ Dakota, Kansas City’s Jazz & Heritage Fest, Sunflower Fest in Topeka KS in June, Birdland NYC in July… possibly studio time this summer… Onward!
Thank you for listening and see you out there!
