Description:

Masterclasses/clinics can either consist of Ms. Allyson alone with students, or with her band (who are also accomplished teachers) demonstrating, and listening to students (singers and instrumentalists) either one on one, or as ensembles.
1. choosing repertoire
2. choosing keys
3. conceiving, executing an arrangement
4. interpretation
5. how to build a band and lead it
6. how to sing a standard 5 different ways

Another very interesting caveat is that her long-time sweet-heart Bill McGlaughlin (radio host extraordinaire of Exploring Music, St Paul Sunday, composer and conductor) also combine their talents in orchestral performances, coupled with masterclasses.

Allyson & McGlaughlin

Gilbert & Sullivan, Currier & Ives, Hall & Oates. To that storied list of creative partnerships, add another — Allyson & McGlaughlin.

Allyson is Karrin — an internationally aclaimed pianist and singer with thirteen albums on the Concord Jazz label, four Grammy nominations and appearances all over the world. Allyson is noted both for the warmth and sincerity of her performing style and the breadth of her repertoire, which embraces the Great American Songbook, Brazilian Bossa Nova, French Chanson, the great classic jazz composers — Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Bill Evans, John Coltrane as well as sympathetic and imaginative treatment of the great singer-songwriters — Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, all the way to Jimmy Webb and Elton John.

McGlaughlin is Bill — whose life in music encompasses stints with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Pittsburgh Symphony, a distinguished career as a conductor, compositions which have been played all across the country and perhaps his most familiar role — public radio’s Music Man, host of Exploring Music and St Paul Sunday.
